Anyone using Hornady Match HPBT bullets in their .270, 30.06 or .243?

If so, how do y'all like them? Midway has them on sale & thought I'd give them a try.

Unless someone here says something like "they turn to dust over 2990fps" or "they kinda make a U-turn out beyond 600"... ::)

The 30cal 178 HPBT has better BC than the 178 A-Max.

The 6mm 105 HPBT also has better BC than the 105 A-Max.

I've read that some shooters have switched from the 7mm 162gr A-Max to the 162 HPBT because it has proven to be faster with an identical load and/or more consistent at long range than the A-Max.

I'm gonna load sum today in 243 and i will let you know in a few days if they are better than the A-Max. I seen it also at Midway so I ordered sum of them, and sum of the Nosler 105 Custom Comp, and Barnes Match Buster 105. That will be testing four different bullets, all Match Grade, so it will be interesting.

Fps REALLY means nothing to a bullet, as far as it being destroyed; it is ALL ABOUT THE RPM!!
I used to shoot the 175-178gr HPBT. Then they came out with the A-max version which had a LOWER BC, and discontinued the HPBT. Fast-forward to the brave new world of slow-performance ammo, suddenly they have a "NEW" old bullet for sale again.

The "new" batch I have not tried, I did have good luck in the 1,000 yard realm with the old batch.

Hey Rat... I tried the Nosler Custom Comp's in my '06 about 2 months ago & didn't care for them. Of course, at that time I was still trying to find a powder to make it happy.
Good luck with them & do try to let me know your results.

My .270 did very well with 130 gr Hornady SST over 55.3 of H4831. That's why I'm looking to try them in my '06. That & they're less money ;)

I experienced the same as the above shooting my 308.

But, give me a Nosler Ballistic Tip, IMO, they are hard to beat and are very accurate in my 6mm's.

I find it was easy to tune a NBT, but I had a very hard time with the Nosler competition BTHP's!

Dennis - Same here. With Nosler BT's in my .270- & H4831, I can do no wrong. The Nosler CC's.... I still have a headache from them.

I couldn't do anything to make them happy..... Almost like an ex-wife :o

Thanks for the input folks.

BAck to bed now....Need rest for shooting tomorrow... er, I mean later when the sun comes up. I'm not very happy that business has been terribly slow but having more free time for shooting has helped me cope with the situation....

Later, all.

Frank, I tried the Hornady Match,Nosler Custom, and Barnes Match Burner yesterday all loaded the same as I do the Hornady A-Max. At 1000 yards the A-Max was the only one to hit gong with 29 moa the other three fell bout 2-3 feet short so I will be staying with the A-Max for now until I can shoot at 300 to see how they all group. Hope that helps!
