A local guy had bought a Axis about a month ago, Stainless .223, with ss weaver bases, rings and a new Redfield 4x12 on it. He found a new toy he wanted so he priced me the .223 for $300 w/o the scope! I have seen him shoot the gun, will do between 1/2 and 3/4 inch with factory ammo for 5 shot groups. I had went thru the trigger for him, #2 and crisp!! I picked it up tonight, added steel millet rings and a older, know dependable, Burris fullfield, 4x12, gonna try to get her zeroed in the next day or so, but know it wont take but a few shots to get her there, and I know what it shoots, and know it likes a handload of mine he had tried, so I am stoked. I have a whole safe of factory savage varmint rifles, and several builds I have done, but a light weight rifle appeals more to me all the time. How do you guys think I did?

I'd say you pretty well!! I checked on the SS before I bought my Axis .223 and 7mm-8 and the SS was selling for $330 at Wally world w/o a scope. So, you saved yourself around $70 tax and all on a great shooting rifle. Congrats!!

Took the 223 to the range to zero, after about 10 rss, I settled in and shot some 3 shot groups with hand loads and factory letting it cool some between 3 shot groups. I had some flat based match 60 53 gr loads tha were well under 1/2 inch. Gsm relaoads were all within 1/2 or close to it, a tad bigger. Fed. Bulk pack 45 gr hps shot about 3/4 even. Not bad for a rifle and scope yahat cost $400 total, and with a pencil barrel.
