Front baffle for a short action/.223

I need to know which baffle and why.I see pics of some guys who have the extended front baffle on short actions and mine had a short front baffle.Which is correct or doesnt it matter.

I believe the long leg on the baffle is to limit rearward bolt travel on 223 cartridges. Thay are shorter than a standard short action like a 308 based cart.

This is correct.
It also works on long actions, and other rounds such as 6BR.
