If this turns out to be a 6.5, what chambering will that be? I am new to the 6.5 chambers and am a bit confused since there appears to be several.

I think you will have your choice of many chamberings. I does look like yet another 6.5 caliber offering, :'( so I may just be saving a little bit of money. I really did not need to be buying another barrel right now, I have 3 that I have yet to fire already. But, if a 30 cal was chosen, I feel obligated to take one of them since I have been voting that way for a while now.

Are we close yet?

Can you do additional work on these or are they some sort of direct ship? ;D

I would love one in either a 308 or 260. I hope something goes through...

Yes, we will be doing a 6.5 magnum now. The order was put in with Shaw yesterday and I'll be posting a link later in the week so you can pre-order and select a chamber.

Right now all of the barrels ordered from me will only come as they come from Shaw. I am not able to shorten or thread them at this time. I am working on this though and hope to be able to offer it in the future.

Regards,

Lance

Thanks for the quick reply Lance, I'll find a local guy to shorten and re-crown. Looking forward to the new barrel.

Hoping for a larger caliber sporter type soon, 7mm, 30, or 338 for a big game build, may pick up a 6.5 but not sure may just wait and see if they offer a larger caliber in the future.

Sorry if I missed these questions/answers in the thread: magnum contour= sporter magnum? Pre-threaded and chambered?

Yes, I believe Magnum, Sporter Magnum, and Standard Magnum would all be considered the same. These will be .675 at the muzzle.

They will be pre-threaded, chambered, and ready to install.

http://www.ershawbarrels.com/scb-contours-and-weights.php

The specs show two at 24" Mg/Spt = .600, Hvy/Spt = .625, 26" Varmint = .700

The reason I ask is, the barrel will be cut to 14-15" length for a stryker. Only have about .650-.700 dia to fit stock at muzzle.

Thanks

Scroll down to the very bottom of that link where it shows Savage Replacement Barrels.

My screw up! Looks like that would make the dia about .850 at 14-15." Don't have enough wood in the channel.

I appreciate your attention in putting together a group buy. The folks at Specialty Pistol do this and it saves a bundle. Thank You.

Appleseed, here is a Mcgowan magnum contour in the plastic stock.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d101/mutwagn/Striker2232.jpg?t=1320795143
and this is a magnum contour in the factory thumbhole, http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d101/mutwagn/Striker2602.jpg?t=1320795143
If you are doing a thumbhole stock, the varmint contour will eat up to much of the barrel channel, but a synthetic stock can be opened up, but the edges will be thin.
I have a 300 SAUM in the varmint contour from Shaw, and I will modify a synthetic stock to fit, and have no regrets or problems.
There is another option though, and one of these barrels in a Joel Russo stock would be perfect.
Look at the post by tinkerer on SP titled new striker stocks. Although his is walnut, Joel makes very nice laminate stocks also and the forend can be speced for the varmint barrel.
One other question, why only a 14" or 15" barrel?
Sorry for the long post, Andy

Just put in my order for the magnum group buy in 6.5 creedmoor. Thanks for getting this together Lance. I got a .243 from you a few months ago and have been very pleased.

Thanks, have stocks both bench and thumhole, but wanted a hunting/carry barrel for the smaller stock. That's why the 14-15," thumhole stock will barely handle a .750 dia. Thanks for the photo of the thumhole stryker, about to cut up a stockys rifle stock for a rear grip pistol. But this is a great deal on a group buy.

This turned out to be a good news/bad news for me. Ordered a 6x45 barrel from the 6mm group buy, since the price was right...the good news, since I have everything to start working with this load and have wanted one for a while.

The bad news (if you can call it that) is I still want a 6BR, and really wanted to build it on a target action anyhow. So start saving for the action/stock/dies/brass/etc. lol

Where would one go to get in on a 308 group buy? And I just want the barrel with out chamber or profile. Suggestions?

Thanks,

John
