Was wondering if anyone could tell me what years a springfield model 840 was manufactured. It is a 222, smooth beech stock, no checking serial #247989. Thanks for the help.

Should be a two-letter (or maybe letter-number) code on the barrel. Post it and someone more knowledgeable than I should be able to tell you. (I have a '53 340B in 222 - no serial number, and I don't want to disturb the sleeping Airedale to get it out of the cabinet to check the barrel code!)
Hope this helps.

I also have an 840 in .222 Rem. that I inherited from my step-dad with a serial number of 155###. Step-dad bought this rifle back in the early - to - mid-60's, as I recall. On the barrel, just clock-wise to three proof marks, is the number "2" that was definetly hand-engraved. And that's all there is. Hope this helps.
