Did you blue the bbl or just paint it? It looks real nice!

Looks nice, but I hope it's a stout kid, 7mm RSAUM and that rifle looks HEFTY! Most folks seem to go more the route of 243 in a 6-7 lb rifle. Is it going to be a walk around rifle or shoot from a stand?

Handi, I'm thinking it could do double duty as a first LR target rifle and a stand rifle. That lad/lass is lucky! Good job Pappy!

He will stand hunt with it, his big sis shoots a palma rifle so he will use this at 600yd, and 1000yd f class shoots twice a month while she is shooting palma this summer. It ended up 10.5 pounds 1 pound heavier then i wanted.

Looks like a nice clean build. Keep us imformed if your kid gets something with it.Remember the first one is a trophy no matter what.

I put together two rifles for my 10 year old grandson. One is a TC Encore in 7-08. He killed an antelope in September and a big bull elk in October on his first hunts. I also built a 6mm BR on a short action Savage using a sporter blank. He has no trouble handling either gun because they are both fairly light with stocks that fit him just right. Even though they're light I also have him shoot off a bipod to keep from dropping the front end of the rifle. We're going to try for a javelina next week with the 6mm. If he gets one, it'll be 3 for 3 for him.

+1!!

I've just cobbled something together for use by my 7 & 9 yo sons... old 110 action, take-off .243 Win sporter weight barrel from a gentleman here, take-off varmint stock from a gent on another forum that'll get the hack'n'marine-tex/rattle can treatment, score-high BR follower, Burris Sig Zee rings w/ +MOA inserts, Burris FFII w/ elevation turrets installed.

No where near as fancy as the rifle you're building ME though, is it daddy? :)
