I have a standard model 10 in .243 and would like to make it a heavy barrel of the same caliber. Would you guys swap the barrel and stock or just buy a new varmint gun?

Money is no object.. both! Buy a heavy .243 and rechamber the old one to something else like .243 AI :)

the real question in my mind is, do you want better then a normal savage barrel? 1 high end custom or 2 guns the money could be close to the same.

Any excuse to buy a new gun works for me. Buy a new rifle and then fine another excuse to do a barrel swap. And it's always better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

Brand new not a round through it. Would be just the ticket. ;D

yeah...i'm on the fence. the building one appeals to me, but i can get a factory HB Savage for $800ish....hmmm.

Building gives you the advantage of getting it done all your way and lets you choose calibers not available from the factory. However if a factory gun gives you everything you need or want, then by all means get it. Just as long as it is a Savage ;).

I will say that I have built several of my Savage for under $800.
