Hey all! I shot a coyote with my .220 Swift this weekend, 42 gr of H380 and a 55 gr V-Max. Chrono says they are traveling 3901fps. I hit her high in the back just off the shoulderblade. If you imagine the shoulderblade as a clock it struck about 11 o clock and put a 4'' hole in her... she was broadside at about 200yds. I love this load! it shoots great and has some authority! but i was wondering if i could pick your brains about a different bullet that might not explode as bad...this being said i love the exlposiveness, and half of the hole is my fault since i didnt put the bullet in the vitals. Do you think that if i would have put it in the vitals it would have not made such a hole? Would it have exited? I still kept the hide anyways. Just thought i would like to hear your input.
Thanks!
Henry.

If you are asking about hide friendly, NO tipped bullets.... Made by ANYONE!
try a heavy SP, or fmj

Try a standard 50-55 or even 60 grain Hornady or Speer and slow them down a bit. They will be destructive, but not as bad as vmax's.

Depending on your barrel's twist rate, you might want to look at the Sierra 65g gameking. I've shot them out of a 22-250 with a 12 twist so the same or faster in a Swift will be no problem.

That sounds great! Mine is a 12 so i will have to give it a try! Thanks!

I have shot like 14 deer (smaller NC deer under 150 lbs) w/ the 65gr SGK at 3000fps MV out of my AR. It makes a pretty good hole, but prob cause the deer is alot heaver and there is more resistance/ bone, etc. Kills them dead very fast. 1/2 were bang flops

There is a problem with pelt shooting and very fast bullets: seems as if no matter what bullet you use, once you get to very high velocities, you tear up pelts. Many have tried even FMJ bullets, only to still tear up pelts. Drop your velocity down, too.

Sierra 52g matchking 3800fps or less.

Savage boy if i ever get the chance i will try the 65's for sure! I think theyd have a reassuring sound!

I can see how the vel is a problem, I just love the flat that the swift provides (plus I had like 800 brass so i figured why not build one) lol

and the 52's are a great bullet too, its all i saw loaded in my dads 22-250 growing up, definitely a good choice. Thanks again all!
Henry.
