Is it the same basic dimensions as the 7mm STW, just necked down? I've never heard of this caliber. I'll bet it's fast though! :o

I just entered the case dimensions into Load From A Disk. The 270 Weatherby has a case capacity of about 83gr of water. The 270 STW has a capacity of about 93gr of water. I'm looking at a 130gr TSX at over 3600 with pressures around 55K CUP. That's almost 300 FPS faster than a 270 weatherby. I'm not sure how well most .277 bullets will hold up at those speeds. I bet something's going to die when it gets hit though!

I don't have this cartridge, but this may be a place to start looking.

The bullets are keyholing but appear to be intact...can't you push them any faster so they'll stabilize? ;D

there is room for more powder, and primer is good so far. thinking there already up around 3100fps

I was half joking as you have the capacity to push things past their limits. That load is obviously not working though and things need changed.

room for another 6gr retumbo ;)

thinking I will move to 130 noslers at 72gr I should still have 4gr to work up to.

Looks good to me. Try stretching it out to 300 yards. Sometimes it just takes a little while for the bullets to stabalize. ;)

boosted the powder a bit on the 110gr bullets and changed the primer, also seated it deeper so it can get a running start!

Mostly, I'm going to try some 130gr bullets. I have 4 types, but I think I will skip the cast ones :)

130 accubond worked the best of those tried.

the 110 Barnes TSX did straighten out with a little push and jump.

Still 10" spreads.

There's three rounds in the photo, plus you tried two other bullets? I'm assuming that's nine rounds at least through it...maybe it's shot out already? ;D

The photo is just the 3 rounds from yesterday. Target has a few more round holes in it now. :)

Also found lumps in my retumbo. It was sealed I thought. Guess maybe it can now be tossed.

That's progress! :)

Progress just slowed. I was using some old 8 mag brass and it was working fine using a 7 die with a .270 expander. I bought some new 7stw brass and the necks are thinner, so there is not enough tension for the bullets now. Hate to have to spend $$$$$$ for proper dies. LOL

Think I found my answer. 7 STW die with expander removed for the body and shoulder and then a .270 win Lee collet die with a bushing around the case to shim the difference in case length between the 270 and STW. the bushing fills the gap between the collet and shell holder pushing the collet up.

Very clever! I'm surprised that the STW brass will fit into the 270 Win die though. I thought the body on the Collet die was closer to case dimensions.

collet dies are large inside.

It's that "yaw" thing for sure. Should straighten out and be sub-MOA at 300, yessir! :):):):)

That's incredible! 3600 fps with a 130 gr.! Sheesh!

Let us know how it turns out!
