Hi All,
I want to build a lightweight coyote gun in .243 and I want to do it on a short action. I was going to buy a Stevens and start with it but the Savage 11/111FCXP3 looks like a real deal but I can't figure out if the .243 model (18004) is built on a short or long action. The reason for my confusion is that in their online catalog they list the Savage .243 as 42.75" OAL, the .270 in the same model as 43.25" only .5" longer, both with 22" barrels. The Stevens on the other hand is listed as 41.75" in .243 and 42.75" in .270, a full 1" longer, both having 22" barrels also. Granted they may have different LOP between models, Stevens/11/111, but you would think that the LOP would be the same in the same model, ie Stevens. I see in the FAQ that there is only about .6" difference between actions so why do the Stevens models have a 1" diiference and the 11/111 only .5" difference with the same barrel length?

dont know why the measurements dont come out right between the two models, but all that really matters is that the 243 you are talking about will be a short action.

The detachable mag is a very nice option to have as well. I like them for hunting much better than loading a blind mag.

I built one off a short action with detacht clip, makes for a good calling rifle. In and out of the truck all day just pop out clip, run and gun!! 243 is a great choice I load 58gr vmax to 3900 fps and drops yotes on the spot...

I sure hope it's a short action as I just ordered one. I really like the detachable mag for sure. I load Nosler 70gr BT's to 3400 or so and those work really well in my TC Encore but I am feeling the need for quick follow up shots ;D thus the Savage.
