Anyone here load a 6-284 with 95 grn Bergers? I have seen some good info from other web sites talking about getting lots of velocity with good accuracy out of this cartridge using like re22 or 4831 and other powders that I can not remember rite now. I am shooting the begets from my 242 ackley now and getting awesome accuracy, but would love to get more power for longer range applications.

I have never shot bergers in mine, but RL-22 works great!! Am shooting an 85 gr. hornady at, if memory works , at about 3500 F.P.S. Works like the hammer of Thor on song dogs and deer. This is with a 25" barrel. I will dig out my records and give the exact load when I get home. This is probably the finest shooting rifle I have ever owned, I can't enough good about this rd. Has even been pressed into service on cow elk. A decent lung hit and groceries in the freezer.

I use Lapua 6.5X284 Norma brass, use the bushing neck die to size the brass by using two different bushing to step down to where it needs to be, then I turn the necks.
After that I put it through the full length die and trim the neck to length.

since it looks like i am gonna have to do a long action on my 6-284 i was wondering if the 270 or 30-06 bolt heads will work on the 284 case?

Trim to 2.160"

I form brass either by necking down WW .284 Win brass and neck turning, or by necking down Norma 6.5x284 brass. My chamber allows me to get away without neck turning the Norma brass, though I probably still should.

The .284 Win case is the same .473" bolt face as .270, .30-06, etc....

My 6mm284 likes H4831SC and H1000 with the 95 grain Bergers. Never got around to trying H100V with them, but it works very well with 85 grain SGK's, 100 grain Speer BT's and SGK's. Don't know why it would not work well with the Bergers.

Just so you can't say I didn't say it.......

Start low and work up so you don't blow your face off.

My accuracy load was 49.5 grains of H4831SC with Fed GM210M primers.
COL was 2.906", groups averaged .357"
I had to squeeze them down to 2.880" in order for them to feed in my short action. That is why I ditched them and moved on.

I am sorry but I can not find any of my chrony data or my H1000 data for that bullet.

No pressure signs to speak of in mine. I think that with a long action and the bullet seated out further you could warm them up quite a bit from there, just have to see....

how fast have you pushed those bergers to? just a round about number if fine.

i have heard of them blowing up around 3400fps, just wondering how true that is

Midway has Lapua,Nosler,Hornady and Norma brass in 6.5-284. Which is recommended to use to neck down? Will the 284 case feed from an '06 type magazine or do you have to play with the lips?
