I was wondering what twist I should go with on a 20" heavy bull ?
Building this on a pta just to shoot pigs...
230 gr. Bergers I'm thinking??

if anything, you'd want NO MORE than 16"......the 300blk WANTS/NEEDS a short barrel...7-8" in a semi...and no more than 16" in a bolt

Any reason why?
Just asking, my thought was longer barrel = less noise..

longer= more velocity, sending the bullet into sonic boom

Real short and you get super sonic gas anyway right? (Unless you have a can).

But if you hand load you can really cut back on the velocity and use a slow burn powder so longer does not mean more velocity

of course you could, but when it comes to shooting factory ammo....and using the round for its intended purpose, just go 16"

I ordered a 1 in 8 twist for the heavier bullets

Think I might go 20" 1:8 twist as well, that way I can play with it

If you could get a hold of Aaron at Delta Company Arms - Did some work on longer barrels in the blk and was amazed at the sound difference. If shooting a can 16 is plenty and 1 in 8 works for everything but Hornady 220's for some reason - in my bolt gun. If can is to be used "WORK UP LOAD WITH CAN OFF".

The gas from the powder burning expanding faster than the speed of sound in an ultra short barrel. Ever shoot sub sonic ammo in a snubbie? You still get a "crack".

i have nothing shorter than a g17...but i have never experienced that with sub ammo, 147gr and 153gr factory loads
