I realize that every rifle is an animal unto itself, but what do you guys find to be your most accurate powder for loading in the .223. I will mostly be loading 40 and 50 grain Nosler BT's and VMax's. Getting pretty good results with H4198 and H4895, but I am always wanting more.

223 rems will shoot very well with lots of different powders. The two you mentioned work well. I have been using Benchmark, H335 & TAC with great results. We have gone through several 8 lb jugs of TAC in the last couple of years mostly because it works very well, meters well and is cheap.

The forever standard is Win 748. 26.6 gr with a 55gr bullet, was a long standing accuracy load in the shooting circles.
With 50 gr TNT's my AR LOVES 748.

All the above mentioned plus 8208XBR. Also looking foward to trying the new one from Hodgdon,CFE 223.Supposed to reduce fouling and be very clean.Who knows when it will show up in my area.

I get excellent accuracy from N133 with 40 gr noslers and 60 gr v maxs.
Over 3900 ft/sec with the 40 gr noslers. If I remember right, 26 gr of n133 for the noslers, use caution, load may be on the hot side.

N133 is very expensive, but lot to lot consistency is better than most other powders out there. I believe it is one of the top choices for the 6ppc also.

21.5g IMR4198 with 55g Hornady V-Max has been an excellent load for me.

I have been having good luck with BLc-2 and 50 Vmax and 52 gr Sie HPBT. The best group so far is a 10 shot into .173 Center to center and that is 2 different loads and 2 different bullets into the same group.

I have my 9 twist savage nailing 52 gr Berger FB's.

Still working on smk 69's. You have any starting load suggestions? How far off the lands?

Thanks,

Dennis

I worked up a load for my 1-7" twist barrel using 55gr Hornady SPSX's and RL15 and it was shooting 1 ragged hole at 100 out of my 16" barreled AR.
In my 223 12FV (I have since traded off) RL15 and varget were my go to powders giving great accuracy with both, 1/2MOA was the norm.

My load for the 69gr SMK is 25gr Varget in a lake city case that I neck sized only. I use wolf small rifle primers and have had no problems with them. They are .006 off the lands, I thought that was a lot of free bore to jump but I cant argue with the results. Hope this helps you out Dennis good luck.

Varget here (too). Also using 69gr SMKs. 24.2grs on my current Savage barrel. Have yet to play with seating depth (shooting just off the lands at the moment).

According to the MSDS, the "eraser" is the very same Tin Dioxide compound that has been in Win 748 & Win 760 for over 20 years already.

RL 15 was my Go To when I was shooting lighter bullets (75 and below). Now I'm shooting Berger 90 gr in a true 1-7 twist Shilen and all I use is Aliant Power Pro 2000 MR. I built another .223 with a CBI 1-8 twist and shot Berger 80 gr from it. Both rifles printed under 3 1/2 inches at 500 yards.
