Picked up a Used model 12 from a guy here in town yesterday. He put a 1-8" 26" McGowen barrel on it. He only shoot's 105g Bergers
out of it. Got 300+ 105gr. bullets with it and 500 pcs. of brass. So my question is , What is the lightest bullet I can shot out of this
barrel. I also have another savage in 243 win. but, it has a 1-9 22" factory barrel on it and I use 70gr. Nos. B/T and 68gr Bergers in it.

Thanks for any input.

I have shot 68 gr bullets out of a 1 in 8 twist 6br, each barrrel has its own personality, the best way to see what your barrel likes is to give it a try.

I is confused... If your asking "can it shoot" 82 is correct, try and find-out.
If you are asking about the twist... That is a bullet maker question, but here is what I can say:
Hornady V-max has a PRM limit upwards of 430,000 RPM
Sierra Blitz has a very similar RPM limit.

+1 on seeing if the gun likes them. Ya never know until you try. Get some 55 b-tips or 58 v-maxes. A fast twist doesn't effect the lighter bullets like a slow twist will effect the heavier ones.It is not possible to over stabilize a bullet. It is possible to have them blow up due to high rpm's.I use to use the Hornady sxsp(now discontinued),60 gr I think, out of my model 7.Velocity max on them is 3200 fps per Hornady. They worked fine in the short barrel but when I tried them in my 24" SPS most of them won't make it to the target. I won't even bother using them in the 26" LRP.Good luck with the 243.I have 3 and love the cartridge.I've killed a pile of groundhogs and deer with mine.

I shoot both 58 and 65 Vmax's and 60 Sierra's from a full case of Varget, that's 44gr from a 26 inch 9 twist Mcgowen all well over 4000 fps, and none vaperize before there intended target.

Thanks Dean

if one googles 'bullet weight and barrel twist' several of the barrel makers will enlighten one....
