I want to get one of these for my 12 FV. I know that the Ross is cut for the sporter weight barrel and I would have to widen the barrel channel a bit on that one but other than that, what are the differences in these two designs? I will be cutting the varmint taper barrel back to 21.75", I just want to know if the Featherweight will make it carry better or will the balance be all wrong?

I just received one of each. The Ross has alot less wood left on it. It would be my choice for a carry rifle, however I would not carry a varmint taper. How that barrel will affect the balance is more the question than the stock. Your actual balance would probably be better with the varmint stock, but then you're carrying alot more weight. My guns are almost all for bench work, so I will probably get the full sized varmint for the next build. FWIW, my carry rifle, for coyotes, has been a CZ527--perfect, except that it's not a Savage so it's got to go!-Steve
