Savage 110 308 W Palma Conversion .. Few Questions for the Experts ;o)

Ok I have a few silly questions I was hoping you guys can answer. Say I buy a savage 110 LA Centerfeed in 30-06. If I buy a 308 barrel, will it work with the LA? Will I need any special parts? The bolt should not need any modifications either correct? I read where savage made 308's in LA & SA, so Im sorta confused. Also, If I decide to buy a Palma W 308 barrel in the future, will the standard Winchester 308 Go & NOGO Gages work to headspace the palma chambered barrel? Ok and the last ?. Will factory Winchester 308's shoot ok in the palma chamber? Many thanks in advance for ya'lls help. Cheers, BR

You may want to purchase a different bolt baffle (the piece between the bolt head and the bolt body) with a long tail so that you don't need to stroke that bolt all the way back for a SA cartridge...

Regular headspace gauges should work just fine with a Palma barrel - its a little more snug, not a lot. Biggest difference is in the throat.

Factory ammo... depending on the bullet used... may end up jammed into the lands in an unsafe fashion in a Palma chamber. Using a Palma throat pretty much demands you handload, and/or be very careful with what you feed it.

Thanks a bunch guys. Ya'll made my decesion factor alittle easier. When I finaly have the funds to start this build Im going to go with a standard 308 barrel then. One other question. If I use a long action rifle as a donor, say a 110 series in 30-06, does savage make a internal centerfeed mag for the long action that will accomodate the 308, cause the 308 is a whole lot shorter then then 30-06 I thought I may run into feeding problems using the 30-06 mag? or will I have to use a single shot follower?

The 06 mag will work just fine for a 308.
