Hello all, new here and have some questions. I have come across an opportunity to buy a Savage 300 win mag stainless at a very good price. I have not seen it yet, but am told it is new in the box. I believe it is pre-Accustock. Does this in any way make a difference, as in accuracy? Were the previous synthetic stocks junk, or not? From what I am told, the gun is 'a few years old'. It would be my first Savage. Is recoil from a 300wm manageable in a synthetic stock? I grew up on 12ga slug guns, so not overly concerned.

IMO, I have seen savage rifles, pre-accustock, that shot very accurately. What matters is the barrel is free floated, a good trigger, good loads worked up, and decent glass will help the rifle. Are the older synthetic stocks junk? That depends. If hunting is your main goal for the rifle, I'd prefer a synthetic stock over a nicer stock.

This is a rifle I've modified from a synthetic stock. The recoil can be managed from a synthetic stock for a 300WM. I'd be using reduced loads for it though.

I would also be looking into a laminate stock if I purchased the rifle. I like the looks of the laminates, and I would think the extra weight would help with recoil. I believe this is one of the Weather Warrior guns, just pre Accustock. Do I need a 300wm? No, but the deal is too good to pass up.
