1 in 10 twist is standard. Works wwith everything from 87gr to 120gr 26" would be the max I would go. Mine is 24" and throws the 120 at 3100 with a healthy dose of 4831. A brake in not needed. the cartridge doesn't kick that hard.
Best regards,
Grit

Like others have said,No brake needed on a 25/06.
1-10 twist 24 or 26" long will do you well.I like a varmint or bull contour barrel on the 25/06,the barrel will get hot very quick if it's thin.

I just want the brake but 26" tube is what I thought would be wright just wonder way they put 30" barrels on the 308 for 1000yd br

Hey Dan, Those heavy long barrels add a lot of weight and make it difficult to carry. The guys using the 30 inch barrls are usually bagged in or on a bipod and often use $1500 + scopes with an app to dope wind and elevation. You could probably do everything you wanted with a heavy magnum contour at 24".

Good luck

P.S. Sometimes I read what I have written before I hit the post button, sometimes not and that is when you see that I have edited what I written.

Hey! My second build was a .25-06. Mine is a 24" McGowen 1-10 twist in a octagon sporter contour. I love it! it will shoot 100gr sierra and 100gr speer bullets at 3300 fps into about a half inch group at 100 yds. I know its good enough to hit a milk jug at 550 ;). one nice thing about the break is you will be able to control the muzzle jump...but on the other hand it will make it quite long if your going with the 26". My other half has a 300 Ultra with a 26" tube and a break....It makes it awkward to get it out fast and makes it a pain for standard scabbards. But it does work! It feels like it kicks less than my 8lb 06 mentioned above! Anyways hope this helps! Good Luck!
Henry.

If you value your hearing and that of those around you, dispense with the brake.

My 26 inch 12 twist Mcgowan sends 75gr Vmax's to 4000 fps plus no brake needed, I do have limb savers on everything I shoot even the short actions I like the feel, btw It takes 62 gr of H4350 or 53gr Varget to get to that velocity.
Thanks Dean
