hey guys
New member here. I have a Savage 110 rifle. It is currently chambered for 30-06. I also have a M1A which is chambered for 308. I want to switch my 30-06 to a 308 barrel. I can buy the barrel from one of the vendors but i dont know if I need a short shank or what. I also prefer to have one with sights. Any of the vendors have those kits with the guages and the barrel wrench and the barrel?
Should I just keep it as a 30-06? I mean it works just fine never had any trouble bringing down deer or wild boar.
I have a brand new never fired .280 sport barrel and a extra 30-06 barrel used if anyone has a 308 barrel and wants to try a new caliber
Im looking though the classifieds and alli found was a 308 short shank want to order it but not sure if it will work
thanx for any help

Yes, you need a small shank. Any small shank barrel will work on your action as long as you have the matching bolt head.

The trouble with a barrel with attached sights is that when you headspace it to your action, they most likely, will not line up. You could buy a barrel without sights, headspace the barrel then have a gunsmith install some.

Ok thanx
I guess Im gonna start looking for a 308 short shank barrel. the rifle is scoped. it has the iron sights but I removed the rear sight. I guess if im gonna go get a 308 barrel Im gonna do a heavy barrel
