It seems to me that in the late 70s or early 80s savage advertised a safari rifle in what they called ,,, the 410 express. It was a 300 WM case necked up to .41 or ,42. I have never laid eyes on one and always thought it should be a great rd, Anybody have one or shot one?? Tried to get one at that time but never could find one. Any thoughts on if they were ever made at all and if so thought on the rd. and rifle?

I never heard of that one, but then there is lots of things I have never heard of.
I built me a 458 WinMag, now if I can get through doing all this moving, I hate moving. Then I will see about getting the mag to feed right.

Could have been listed as .425 express, as I suffer from C.R.S. Old age sucks a big green one let me tell ya!!

It was the .425 express. It is a WM with a .404 Jeffry bullet. I don't think it lasted more than a year or two and I don't know of any factory amunition. If you were to do it now I would recomend the Ruger CM case.

Thanks, you have absolved my memory!! I still think it would make a decent rd. Did they actually chamber rifles to it? Been trying to find an affordable .404 for years!!

I wouldn't use the Ruger CM case but the 375 or 416 Ruger would make a dandy 404 on a standard length action. I do think the 416 Ruger would be more versatile (and have factory ammo too!).
