Hello all,

yesterday a friend passed on to me a Savage Sporter 23A in 22. he let me have it because it is not working. when you charge the bolt to the rear then close it forward it is not staying cocked, the piece that is supposed to stay to the rear until the trigger is pulled is not staying in the cocked position? has anyone ever come across this or can anyone give me bolt disassembly instructions i think maybe it was put together wrong.. any help is appreciated..

There is a pin in the rear of the bolt that needs removed, if you relieve the pressure on the cocking handle and punch the pin out the bolt will come apart really easy, I would show you step by step pics but am not going to put myself through that without having to ;)

My first guess is the firing pin is worn, I don't have an extra. It is possible that your trigger might be worn, I do have an extra, but I highly doubt it, they are freaking hard.

I do not know exactly what model you have, or what changes Savage might have made during the years, but here are a few possibilities.

This might be it, but he has no picture, why don't people put pictures up.

Again, no picture.

You guys are nuts.

For $160 I'd be grabbing that sucker up in a hurry. Probably a $10 fix to get it running again.

If it was in Canada it would be sitting in my safe right now.

PM sent.

Curious. Is this the round bolt or square bolt?

the bolt appears to be round nothing square about it...

The reason I was asking is the older models at a glance look the same as the newer models but the front of the bolt was square. I got bit by that once before.

Thanks.
