A buddy of mine picked up a used hornet from a store. After he had it home he noticed some marks on the very back of the chamber (where the back end of the barell is cone shaped). Apparently someone got a case stuck in the chamber and tried to pry it out with something. Now there are some sharp burrs on the very back where the rim of the case sits against. Also there must be some burrs pushed into the chamber because he was getting some scratches on the brass.

We are thinking he can stone the burrs off with something or take it to his gunsmith to do that. I would think you can't take too much material from that surface or it could change the head space.

Are these barrels threaded in ? The ideal way to fix this would be to take the barell off but I don't think that is something that we could do ourselves ??

Zap Barrel removal on model 40 hornet is not difficult. recoil lug has set screw that locks it & barrel in place. lossen set screw & remove lug, barrel should unscrew by hand, if it does not come apart easy, remove scope base screws, sometimes they are to long. When recoil lug is removed mark barrel & receiver with scribe marks so that when it goes back together headspace is not changed. Be careful when cleaning up damage to not decrease the length of the chamber.

So I take it you are able to re barrel the 40? Just curious, saw one at a pawnery yesterday and think i am going to pick it up. Are they a single shot? Just curious...
Henry.

Henry,
I am not sure about rebarreling. It is not as simple as the other centerfire savages. I think the 40 has some special machining done, like a flat and a set screw that holds the barrel to the receiver.

Yes they are single shots.
