I am building a 284 Winchester using a Savage PTA action.
What barrel diameter do you recommend?
I think the large shank action threading is somewhere around 1.116", do you recommend staying at this figure or possibly going more, like 1.250"?
Or smaller than 1.116"

What will you be using this for?

Well, if you can stand it, straight, or even straight and fluted.
Need it a little lighter, heavy varmint.
My 2 cents worth.

This gun will be strickly for competition shot using a Farley rest.
The main concern: If I go a little larger on the barrel, the barrel will be bigger than the threads/barrel nut which might not look right!

if it was me I'd go 1" and use the nut but if I found a straight 1.25 barrel i'd consider casterateing it and use the extra barrel for the shoulder?
