Thanks to a lot of advice from Jim Briggs and Scott Null, the new 2000 yard gong ringer rifle project has begun.
Right Bolt, left port match action
New bolthead and firing pin assembly
FT/R stock
34" 3 groove treated barrel, 1"@ muzzle
20 minute rail
Schmidt & Bender 4-16x50 to start but will be moving to IOR as they make the new 12-52x56 scope with a 35 min rail.
Yeah I know you can't open the bolt and extract a loaded 3.6" round w/o hitting the bolt release first, but I can't recall ever unloading a loaded round while playing at gong ringing.
Should be a worthy grandchild to my current going on 50 years "gong gun". M70 Bull Gun 300 H&H, BalVar 6-24, Canjar SST, that went to Perry twice.
Figure the 338 RUM will about double the "beaten zone" of the 300 H&H rig.
