Hello, I'm trying to find a .270 in a heavy barrell and not finding too much. So I thought about doing a semi-custom rifle. Buying a savage .270 and than putting an aftermarket heavy barrel on it. Is that possible? I don't know too much about stuff like that. Or are there other ways that might be easier to get a heavy barrelled .270. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!!

you could buy just about any long action and make a 270 by adding an aftermarket barrel of choice. its easy and addicting haha

I might sound ignorant but.. just call savage and buy a long action?? Could you expound a little more? I have no idea where to start. I usually just buy factory rifles and never tinker with them. Thanks

The .270 Win has a .473" bolt face. It also has to be built on a long action in order to properly function as a magazine fed repeater. This is also true of the 25-06, 280 Rem, and 30-06 among others. All that is necessary to build a .270 is to find a rifle chambered in any of those four rounds and it would be a simple barrel swap (and hogging out the barrel channel in the stock to accommodate the heavier barrel contour).
