Are there other calibers that can be built on this 204 action? Asking for a friend

Thanks Gary

Unless this is an odd older gun, the LRP is a "12" series, meaning that it is a standard Savage short action.
Anything that will fit in a short action should be fine.

The LRP only comes in 243,260 and 6.5 creedmore. You'd have to change bolt head and find a detachable mag that will work with the 204.

The new 12 LRP's have large shanks.

When did Savage start using Large shanks on Non-WSM builds? They used to be on CRF actions that were WSM's/RUM's.

I think they are large shank because it's a heavier bull barrel instead of a varmint weight barrel.

6x45, 6x47, 6TCU, 7TCU, just to name a few.

6x45 is a .223 necked up to 6mm, the 6x47 uses the .222 Mag or .204 case, The TCU's were pistol rounds.

All LRPs whether LRPV (varmint) or LRPH (hunter) are large shank, as they are all built off the Target Action. The VLP (Varmint Low Profile) is the traditional 12 series that is basically the replacement for the BVSS (yes they do still list the BVSS) series and are small shank. The "V" model comes in a multiltude of varmint calibers including the .204 Ruger. The "H" model is the one that is currently only offered in .243, .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor.

Pretty much anything can be chambered off that action. You will need to replace the bolt head for anything other than a .223 Rem.

I just got done building a 6.5X284 off of one. Everything went fine until I had to unload a loaded round. ;D

...or related cartridge. There are lots of cartridges that are related to the .223 that use the same sized bolt head. These range from the .17's (Rem, Mach IV, Fireball) to the .20's (Tactical, practical) the .22's (.222, .222 Mag, .221 Fireball), 6mm's (6x45, 6x47, 6mmTCU, 6 Whisper) 6.5mm's (6.5PCC (wildcat), 6.5TCU, 6.5 Whisper), 7mm's (7 TCU, 7 Ingram, 7 Whisper) .30's (Whisper/221/Fireball, AAC Blackout) and even .338 (.338-223 Straight).

Several of those are fairly well established wildcats and load data and dies are pretty common.
