I decided that I wanted a 7mm-08 rather than a .308, so I took my Model 16 apart and went to work.

After lurking around this website for a while and picking up a stock in the classified section, I finally got my barrel from savage-barrels.com.

So the finished product is as follows:

Savage 16 Action with accutrigger
McGowen varmint contour 20" barrel chambered in 7mm-08
B&C Duramaxx Stock
Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 scope

I'll find out how it shoots on Friday. I'm going to burn through some factory loads to break it in and create some brass for reloading.

I'm hoping it shoots better than I do. ;)

Since I'm an East Coast guy, this should make for the perfect hunting rifle for deer and hogs.

Th only downside to this project is that it's got me itching to build another Savage based rifle. :D

An AR was my first build. I might just do another one next year.

Range results at 100 yards:

That was the story of my day at the range. I bought up some cheap Prvi ammo from Midway so I'd have some brass for reloading. I've shot Prvi ammo out of my AR with pretty good results, but this batch was quite dirty and really inconsistent. Just about all of my three shot groups had two right next to each other and a third way off. Hopefully, my reloads will do a little better.

Great looking build and I'm sure that your reloads will tighten those groups right up.

Privi is normally good brass for reloading but primer pockets can be a little tight. I fully prep them deburring the flash hole and recutting the primer pockets.

What are your preferred tools for deburring and recutting?
