A buddy of mine just got one of these tonight, and wants to know what brand rail does Savage put on this rifle. Is it a 20 MOA rail? I have looked on the site and in the online catalog, but can't find any info. Thanks! Ok, he finally took it off and told me it was an EGW. Is it 0 or 20?

I would venture to say it is a 0 MOA Evolution Gun Works Base.

Is it steel or aluminum?

EGW is aluminum @ $39.95 and can be ordered directly from their web site.

The base that Savage shows in the pictures on the LRH doesn't look like the aluminum 39.95 base that EGW makes. I have a few of those. The base on the LRH has fewer cross slots and they appear to be solid cross slots rather than the open channel down the middle.

Not sure about his but the ones in our shop look to be 20moa. They are canted.

Take a micrometer to the front and rear of the base. If the front is smaller (height) its a canted base. Probably 20MOA.

EGW makes two different series of bases. Their regular bases are aluminum (alloy is not specified so probably 6061) and don't have full profile ribs between the slots. Their HD bases are 7075 and have full profile ribs.

That said the base on the LRH appears to be a custom job. Quite likely made to spec for Savage by EGW. They do a good bit of OEM work.

That's what I was thinking.

They also make a steel HD base too but I think they only make it for short action Savages the last time I checked but it's been a while since I've looked. I have both the standard and the HD and you're right about the types of aluminum on them. The standard is 6061 and the HD is 7075 which is harder/stronger.

The underside of the base says EGW Sav 110 BA. That is all he could tell me.

Yep. Special made for Savage.

And yes, EGW still makes an HD in steel for the SA Savages.
