I just got my .243 rebarreled with my new Shaw barrel last night, and will be loading up some A-Maxs in 105 grain today. I figured my max OAL for them for the barrel, and was just wondering if anyone had some tips on a good starting length off the lands. i was thinking .015 off the lands to start, and then work back and forth from there to fine tune. Sound ok?

+1, .015 is a good place to start providing your mag box can handle that.

gotcha. I ran about 30 rounds through it yesterday to begin a break in. Shot the first five with cleaning in between, then shot three and cleaned, then five and cleaned a couple of times. I found a couple of pretty promising charges to work with, and loaded up some of those. Went back today to test them out. The strange thing is this....each 3 shot group I fired today (6) total, had 2 of the three shots touching or in the same hole, and the third shot would be out anywhere from .40 to .80 from the first two. This happenedx on three different charge weights. Strange. Gonna try again tomorrow with the best of the charges and ssee what happens.

instead of going back and forth start at the lands then all you need to do is go back, works for me anyway

Got lucky first time tried with the 105gr AMax's. Got a RL25 load from one of the guys
here and loaded the bullet to the lands in the Savage VLP .243. First three shots were
1/4" group. Did the same thing with a load of RL17 with the same results. It will also
group close to that using 70gr SMK's, but not with a lot of other bullets tried.
