My Model 12fv in 22-250 has barked three times so far this season. Results--3 dead coyotes-- 302,300 and 256 Yrds. 45gr winny white box shoots like a dream out of the model 12 and plants them fast. None of these were called in all of them came from using a sniper type setup, by setting up well before sunup on known travel routes.

You may need to come and set up in my neighborhood, we have too damn many stray dogs that feel like they can poop in my yard.

Gotta be careful killin' domestic canines but that don't mean you can't tatoo them with a paintball gun! Splatter them hard and they won't return!

Snipeing continues to pay off, now up to nine coyotes with my best day last Monday when I killed 4 coyotes and they were all on the ground 20 Min before sunrise. A 208-185 & 2 around 25 Yrd's (way to close) after long stare down. Passed on a 5th coyote as I could not get a shot because of the cows standing around me. Blast from the 22-250 didn't even scare them as they just walked over to the coyotes and smelled them.

Sounds like you have it all worked out and the 22-250 is a great coyote cartridge.

Added number 10 for the season. Had something happen that was a surprise, as the coyote came in among the cows at 75 Yrd's. After waiting for him to clear the cows and still having the scope on 12 power I twisted around and got the scope on him. Just as I touched off the shot I realized that there was a haze on his chest ( FINE GRASS ) bang down and back up and on the run. I took off for the top of the hill with my sticks and spotted him at 325 Yrd's in a corn field moving slowly. Got on the sticks and had a good back rest, put the accu-reticle on the 325 mark and smoked him for a finishing shot. At almost 4000 fps obliviously the bullet broke up when it hit the grass, but the 22-250 has the ability and flat trajectory to reach out and finish the job. Hope this doesn't happen very often but if it does I know that follow up shot will do the job.

This sniping game is getting tough. Setup in a new spot to take advantage of NW wind along a river that borders a large corn and bean field where I have spotted a lot of coyote movement. Was watching two coyotes work there way towards me and all of a sudden here comes a coyote running down the river on the ice. Have no idea what his motivation was and then right across from me(25 Yrd's) he decides to go up the bank.I had the scope set on 4 knowing that they use the river bank grass a a travel route. Got the scope on him as he hit the top of the bank, there he hesitated for just a second and just as I touched off he took off again. Gut hit and he was up and running again, turned up the power as he made his way out into the corn field (bang Texas heart shot) down again. Boy do I hate those close shots, give me a nice 200 Yrd's any day. Well he did bring the count up to 11 so it was a good day.

Congratulations that is a nice shot. Would you agree that one of the main ingredients is to be a confident shooter in that you know your rifles and your abilities to make long shots with consistency. Patience and calmness come to mind also when trying to use the sniping type of coyote hunting and I think many would benefit from using this method to expand there coyote hunting skills.

I completely agree that you should be confident in your skills and your equipment. You don't really have to shoot at coyote targets to get better at shooting coyotes, but you do need to get out there and get to know your gun and what it will do your gun will become eventually be like an extension of your body.
