This cartridge has always teased me. I have been thinking of rebarrelling to this cartridge but I haven't really seen much on it. Have also considered the 6x47 but the price of the brass is little steep. Anybody?

So what would be the advantage of this cartridge versus say the .260 Improved?? Just asking....to educate myself. I have a .260 Improved...brass is reasonable...and I have a long tube...and it gets me very similar velocities as the 6.5-284.

I have a 6-250AI that I used in F-class. 107SMK's @ 3250 to 3300 give up nothing to a 6.5-284 @ 600yds(I have owned both)

I like the 6 better because of less powder and recoil. You do have the extra brass prep steps(necking up and fireforming) but both are easy and for me enjoyable. I have nothing against the 6.5s. they are all good rounds, I just took a liking to the 6-250AI.

A friend of mine chambered himself a 6x47L and really likes it. He hasnt been able to get any more speed out of it though.

Thanks Steve. How do your fireforming loads shoot? I was hoping to be able to fireform with good accuracy and enjoy shooting the fireform loads with more purpose than just forming brass. Also, what twist are you shooting? I am wanting to shoot 107's but also drop down to 75gr vmaxs for some varmints. BTW, Nice rifle.

He said he was shooting 8 twist in the 31" Shilen.

Not answering for him but I have found fireforming loads in all my AI rounds to be fine for practice trigger time, varminting, etc.

Also, is there a source for dies w/o special ordering? And what all would be needed, i.e. full length, neck sizer etc.

Fire forming loads were VERY accurate with 105Amax's. Hogdons site has 6-250 load data for fire forming.
As far as dies go I made mine. I think you would have to special order.

I am personally looking forward to trying this one. I am going to try it in the 6mm International Version mostly because i keep 22-250 brass around and I have the RCBS 3 die set already.

I tried the 6-284 first. It is a great round but it shot best at about 3250fps and took more powder to get there. I need a new barrel for mine, all the goody is gone. It has over 3000 rnds through it and has been set back twice. 4831sc seems to be the goto powder for me.

I'm shooting a 6XC. It is not an AI but is is on the 22-250 case and a lot of fun. I had a 1-10 twist barrel so I used it, but a 1-8 would have been better for the long range stuff. I've only shot targets up to 300 yards, and it is a neat little cartridge.
