I have the Konus 29x69x80 spotting scope and love it. I shoot CMP every weekend and use it there. About half the guys have the 80 and the other half have the 100. I'd say if you have the $$$ spring for the 100. It lets in more light on those cloudy days. But picking out 20 rounds of .223 on a target at 200 yards is no problem with either.

Shoot. Started to respond before i seen your budget price. My advice would be save your money and buy a scope with magnification to get the job done. Spotting scopes in that price range will not perform as well as a quality scope in the 20 power or more range. After using good glass I gave my spotting scope away.

I agree with Mike, in glass you pretty well get what you pay for. You will see more through a 20x good glass than a 50x poor glass... and your eyeball won't be hanging out on your cheek. I struggle with an old Bushnell, very short eye relief, but fair glass. Take a look at the Leupold Gold Ring 12-40, good glass and super long eye relief. If you wear glasses, long eye relief is a must. The Leupy is a grand, but you can often find a used one for half that. Go to a BIG store and look through them all. Burris Signature, Nikon are worth a look. Weaver used to make one that looked like the Signature and it was good glass.

lal;

What are you needing the scope to do? If all you want is to see bullet holes at closer distances or scoring in a match, the Konus 80 will be a good starter. If you need to see tiny holes at longer distance, you'll need to go WAY up in quality. Magnification and clarity are very important here.

Also, if you'll be using this quite a bit, I recommend you get a scope stand like the F-Class and Highpower shooters use (Ray-Vin and Champion come to mind but there are others). It will go a long way to keep the scope steady and not be very prone to falling over.

yeah i think i'm going to put it on hold for now unless my job bonus is good enough to get both the scope and spotting scope .i looked thru a konus 80 and a 100 both were way better then the simmon elcheapo i have now(dont even bring it to the range anymore). i wanting to try and see my holes better @300yds 223 i know will be hard if not impossible also hoping to shoot @ a range in birmingham ,al 500yds and a place call hard rock east of me to maybe 1000 yds(308 win or 300win mag on this one)
