My 6brx, tell me what's going on, it's broke!

Below is a picture of my 6brx brass, last 8 shots. It's being shot out of a Savage PTA RBRP. 7 Remmy 7 1/2's and one CCI 450 primer.

This started slowly, and as you can see the last 8 are not normal, I also had 3 misfires. I put three pieces of masking tape on the end of new brass before the bolt wouldn't close!

Could this be caused by a head clearance issue?

I have taken the bolt assembly apart and didn't find anything abnormal!

Sure sounds like a headspace issue. On my .243 a single layer of tape on a go gauge and the bolt won't close.

Was this new 6mm BR brass? If so, the shoulder location and angle are much different from a 6mm BR (brass you are using) and a 6 BRX. This is why it took you 4 pieces of tape before the bolt would not close. Try seating the bullets long so that they are hard in the lands and have neck tension. Or you can neck up to 6.5mm then size part of the neck back to 6mm to create a false shoulder. Long bullets with a tight crimp method is easiest.

I'm with Jamie. It's behaving like a excess headspace because of the fireforming. You need to get it tight in the chamber somehow, either with the false shoulder or a long bullet jammed in the lands.

Looking at the ejector marks and primers, you might have loosened the primer pockets already.

It has nothing to do with headspace. It's all about pressure. Cartridges like the 6 BRX and the Dasher produce more pressure at the primer. The best fix is to bush the firing pin hole and use a smaller firing pin tip, such as .060".
