hi guys ,i just got a stevens .308 win. this is going to be a project gun with my first barrel swap, followed by new trigger, magazine conversion and stock. i need some help from you guys; i have done a search on this site and can no seem to find what i am looking for. can someone out there please list the steps in the re barreling process in detail? when do you set the headspace is one question i have. how do you go by setting the headspace? i have ordered a PTG guage from midway along with the 20" barrel, and new barrel nut. i have never done this before so the more you can tell me the better off i will be.

thanks guys

There are a few good how to vids on youtube that I watched a few weeks ago just to see how difficult it would be, it appears to be something that I can do. I do not have access to youtube at my office or else I would post the links.

one more question, i read that to install the go gauge you have to remove the fireing pin and ejector from the bolt? is this true or can it be done with the fireing pin and ejector still on the bolt?

I don't remove either. I simply thread the barrel snug onto the go gage. It helps to try it a couple of times and develop a feel for when the gage bumps the ejector and then feel it bottoming out on the gage.
