I am going to be getting a Savage 10PC with accustock. in the next day or two and have a few questions to bounce off everybody.

1. How much speed and range am I going to lose by going with the short barrel over the 24 inch barrel?

2. Will this gun stabilzer Berger 175 grain vlds?

3. Do you think any additional work will need to be done to gun to gain any more accuracy???

Thanks,
Richard

I am wondering why you want to shorten the barrel? No issue with it, just wondering.

If anything, would leave it at 24" and have it recrowned professionally.

Rule of thumb is 25 fps per inch. Varies with the caliber though....among twenty eight other items. :)

This gun comes with a 20 inch barrel from the factory... So I dont plan on making the barrel any shorter.. Just curious from the other 10fp with say a 24 or 26 inch barrel.

Banded, i have one in .308 that i have been using in the 3-500yd range that shoots well. I haven't used anything heavier than 150gr, however you should be able to use 175's. My 10pc likes hornady 150gr interlocks best for grouping.
It is said that you won't lose anything until you get below 22". There is a good field test on here of the 10pc if you join, well worth the money. blue

I'm still on the fence about buy in the 10PC. Co-worker has one and I've had a chance to shoot it side by side with a Remmy 5R. Both will drive tacks. I really like the 10PC, but then again, I have a plethora of Remmies. Decisions, decisions. For my purposes, I don't think I'd be giving up much, other than 4" of bbl for the 10PC. The ~$300 difference between the 10PC and 5R buys a lot of ammo and/or components,

Have just broken in and fired my new 10pc. 150 hornady interlocks 3/4" @ 100yd. Am going to try some federal 165 vital shok sp nosler. Winchester powermax 150gr were all over the place 3" groups!
