So far liking very much my model 11 in 243. I reloaded some rounds using hornady 75gr vmax with H414
44 and 45 gr of H414 with a col of 2.640" Seem to do well and was getting about .75" groups @100yards. I am wondering if anyone out there has used 75gr vmax bullets and what kind of powder you used and col and primer was used? Or any other advise you could give.
New to this forum and liking what I see on it. Thanks coyoteman5

never used 75gr vmax in 243 but have used 70gr blitzking and 75gr speer hollowpoints. 4350 with the 75gr and 4064 with the 70gr

Well I went out this last weekend and tried some different loads using 75gr vmax and H414
44-45gr of H414 seems to work at this point shooting between 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups
I will retry them soon to make sure. But looking good now.

I'm using the 87 gr Vmax and W-760 in one of my pdog rigs. Shoots under .5 from a good bench. I'm using Fed match primers.

This last time out I remembered to bring my Caldwell lead sled that helped but will retry them again to make sure. Then start playing with over all case length and try some max load to see how they do. I also tried some factory hornady 58gr vmax and they shot real good clover leaf them which surprised me but hey if they keep doing that I won't complain. I will also try that 87gr vmax. Thanks for the info.

I have an 11 action with a Shaw 243 barrel on it really likes the 65 V-Max with IMR-4064. I just put a new Sightron 111 on it and shot it in today. I shot 2 3 shot groups that in each group all shots were in one hole. I know it will shoot better than I can hold it most days.

H414 IS Win760.
Mine likes 47 grains, the coyotes.... Not so much

Yeah I read somewhere that 414 is the same as win760. The last time I dusted off a coyote and went up and ask him how he liked that reload he didn't have much to say either funny how that works. Well most likely not funny for the yote but there again no feed back.

Hey Coyoteman...
Lemme know after you get your bullet / charge criteria where you want it. Then, maybe call out how you like that .243. Things like recoil, accuracy at distance, bullet stopping performance, etc, etc...

I'm thinking on changing one of my Savage rifles to a smaller caliber. I have a .270 Win. & a 30-06 so it's like having 2 of the same rifle although, I like shooting the .270 more. Seems to be more agreeable with me. Anyway, other options include setting up the .270 with the lightest (smallest) bullet & the '06 with 180 gr. Noslers, or I even considered going with a 22-250 since I happen to already have the die set up for it.
I'm just looking for as much info / input as I can get just short of firing off a few rounds. I know a guy from my local range that I need to convince he needs to let me spend a day with his .243.
Thanks in advance.
Frank

I have had a 243 in rem 700 before this savage and liked it a lot but had to sell because i had to pay a bill or two but thing are better so i am able to get another one and i did because like the caliber. To me recoil is really nothing. A 22-250 is nice also I have had one but sold it to get my first 243 so I could go with a heavier bullet for bigger game, bucking the wind both are based on the 308 case which I also have and like. For the 243 i feel you have more Selection/versatility but you want fast the 243 can do also hornady has a load using their 58gr vmax at 4250fps. It depends on what you are going to use it for. At this point I'm really happy with the savage better then my old Remington 700.

I also have a new Model 11 in 243 and started with Remington 100 Grain Core Locs because I saw someone else said his rifle liked them. I couldn't get 2 shots withininches of each other. Boght a box of Hornady 100 grain and the first 2 shots were touching and the 3rd was about a 1/2 inch away. What a difference. I know its not reloads but the rifle did not like the Remington ammo at all.

Yeah each company uses different powders their bullets are different as in bc, copper thickness surrounding the lead, copper hardness. Some rifles will shoot just about any good than there are those that only like one or two kinds of ammo. You just have to try different ones and see what your rifle likes. As we know some will shoot like crap some will shoot ok and the ones we all like shoot very good. That part of shooting trying to get the best out of your equipment and yourself it's great when it comes al together.
