Factory synthetic stock needs to be cut, molded and shaped into a pistol grip, no butt on the stock. Wood might work if it will bond to the plastic, mechanically and with filler/adhesive. Would bondo or fiberglass adhere? For a rear grip pistol.

Have a walnut vlp stock modified for the bench, but trying to make a smaller light weight one for field use.

Several guys on here have modified plastic stocks using wood and bondo. If yoiu prep the plastic properly by roughing up the surface you are going to bondo it, should work. There have been some really nice work done on them. I hope they chime in with some pictures for you.

Yeah, wood will give it structural strength especially if screws are used. What kind of adhesives bonds plastic to wood? The bondo is for filling and shaping, not structural?

It may be best to have a second slim line stock duplicated in wood. The vlp/pistol stock should be here soon. The stock maker has a boyds thumbhole and a cooper stock he could duplicate to the savage action and add a pistol grip. His pattern cooper stock is similar to rimfire size, but came from a centerfire rifle.
