30.06 jump if any?

Just got my first 20 brass cleaned, sized, and primed. I have measured to the lands in my rifle can't remember the measurement at the moment its at home. my question is if my magazine will handle the length and the rifle will eject a live round should I start my ladder touching the lands or should I jump? If I need to start with a jump how much I have seen on here .020 and recently read .065 also.

Your loading for a hunting rifle so I would suggest loading to magazine box length which will keep the bullet off the lands. I load my 308 where the bullet is .030" off the lands and that is giving me groups in the .8's. In the long run, your rifle will show you what it likes but it will take load development and range time.

And if it still has its USGI barrel, you probably can't reach the lands anyway!

I just tried a 172 gr. military boattail match bullet in a dummy round in an 03-A3 with military barrel. The bullet touched the lands at around 3.65 OAL but I couldn't eject the loaded round without removing the bolt. For hunting rifles I start load development at magazine length and then try seating deeper if I don't get the accuracy I want.

My hunting rifle is an original 1943 03A3 8)
I don't load anything that heavy, only 165-168 grain Sierra's.
I load to 3.300 which fits the mag. I am still well off the lands.
When working up a new load, I always start with the load book specs for seating depth.
Once an accurate load is found then you can start to fine tune the seating depth.
I have found that seating depth is the last thing to worry about, unless the throat is shot out.
Every rifle I load for has a jump to the lands, I have never gained any accuracy by loading to the lands or just off.
This works for me, YMMV :)
