Which would be better on prairie dogs under fifty yards ?

257 Weatherby with 75 grainers ?

or

264 Winchester Magnums with 85 grainers ?

Rifle barrels of course.

I am not convinced that either is a sufficient round for PDs. My minimum caliber for close in dangerous game would be .358 Win. ;D

You're lookin for a mauling aren't you?!?!?!

Goin that light at that range with a chargin bull PD is just too dang dangerous!!!!

I was thinking at least a 416 Rigby with solids.

There is only one way that I would take on a PD with a 257 Wby. It would have to of had the barrel cut down to about 18". That way, even if you don't get a killing shot, he will be rolling around in the dirt, trying to extinguish his singed fur long enough for you to hop in the truck and speed away to safety.

No, he's looking for a gnawing. :)

lol

I guess it would depend on what kind of "better" you're looking for? Or did you mean turn them into "butter"? The only experience I have is with the 257 wby, and the only close range experience is a 30 yard shot at a bobcat while deer hunting this year. I almost blew him in half with a 115 ballistic tip.

I'm sure the 75 gr Vmax would have been "better"...

;D

7x57 with 175 grain solids is plenty of gun for short range PDs

Been couped up too much again Hammer http://www.coyotegods.com/ubb/images/graemlins/recipe.gif
Actually I'd prefer their big brother! The 7 Mag with 160 grain partitions would work so much better and give you some trigger time for big game hunting.
In any case it might pay to aim low for better air time?

In retrospect, I think the .416 Taylor would do the PD's right!

;D
