I would appreciate your experiences with this single shot 22 Hornet rifle, ie. accuracy, problems, any targets you may have that you could post here, etc. Santa (that's me) may be looking at this or a Mark II BTVS 22LR.

I have had 2 of them. The first one had the extraction problem which Savage fixed at no charge and I never had the problem again. It shot great with 13grs. of "LIL Gun" and a 35gr. V-Max. It shot 10 shot 1' groups at 100yds. and tipped over Prairie Dogs at 200+ yds. My second one which I bought this past spring shoots just as good if not better. I use the same load and get 3050fps and it will shoot 10 shot 1" groups at 200yds. I was not impressed with either gun using factory ammo. It is a thumbhole model which I prefer and it is one of my favorite PD guns. It is topped with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40LR with the Varmint Reticule. The only change in the gun that I would like is stainless. Dale

On a good day, I can get 1/2" 100 yard groups with Lil-Gun and 40 gr. V-Max. Savage fixed my extraction issues and they have not returned. I have a Lyman 225438 mold that I am starting to experiment with. If sucessful I will have a very cheap squirrel gun.

Loved mine but had nagging extraction issues with 2 different rifles.

Returned the first one 3 times to Savage than they replaced with a new model 40. Had to send the second one in also and had it replaced with a 12FV after that.

I've had one for over 2 years now. My buddy also bought his his at the same time. Mine has not epxeinced any extraction problems so far, not a singel one. My buddy's on the other hand had extraction problems from the start, but he was shooting old ammo that he had for upteen years. We shot up all his old ammo, tumbled the brass to get itnice and clean, full lengthed sized them, and presto, his extraction problems were gone. We both shoot the same load, 13.0gr of Lil Gun and 40gr V-Max. His delivers 5 shot 1/2" groups at 100yds, mine not quite so good, at 5/8" with an occassional 1/2"ish group. I have experimented with 13.0gr Lil Gun and the Sierra 40gr Blitzking and bammo sub-1/2" groups at 100yds. When I finish shooting up all my V-Max loads, I will be switching to the 40gr Blitzking.

I have taken a fox at 175yds with it, DRT, and crows at 200yds or so, are no problem. I have had two other buddies shoot mine on the range and in the field and both now own one as well.

The only negative thing I can say about the rifle is, if you seat the bullet out to .010" or so off the lands, which is 1.910" if I recall correctly, you cannot eject a live round as the ejection port is too short. So I seated mine out to 1.835", which will just barely eject a live round.
