I'm not sure what they were designed for, but mine shoots everything pretty good, but it prefers the CCI 20g gamepoints. I think I read somewhere that almost all of the ammo was made by one company (CCI I think). It may also like those because they are a touch heavier and may not get blown around as much. I know 3g doesn't sound like much, but it is roughly 15% heavier so it helps IMO.

My pre Accu-Trigger shot them all well, but prefered XTP 20gr.
I'm hoping my new one will be the same

The heavy's (20gr) Game point and even the CCI 20gr FMJ..... Boy my 93 really likes these FMJ's..!
The game points get the black birdies (caw caw) with feathers fly'n... Crows inside 150yds, the HMR.... Beyond that, the Mod 12 with 10 twist Shilen 204 SHREAD'em...!

One person chimed in several months ago. He stated all 17HMR ammo is made in one plant and he works there! He is on this board, he may jump in.

While they are all made in the same plant they are all made to different specs. Or so i have been told.

I stand corrected on this. Or at least on the 17gr v-max bullets.

CCI, Federal, Winchester, Remington and Hornady all loaded here at CCI in Lewiston, Idaho with a V-max bullet are identical, with the exception of tip color. Manufactured on the same equip, to the same ballistic specs, using the same components other than color of the tip of the bullets. Obviously the shellcase 'head stamp' and packaging would be different on the various products.

Well; since most or all 17HMR rifles are 1:9 and all original ammo was 17gr.
It stands to reason it was designed for a 17gr. bullet
