Hi. New member here from mid Tennessee. I recently came accross a Savage 99 in 22HP. It has a 4 digit serial #, is in pretty good condition except for worn blueing on the reciever. All else is in good condition. Rotory mag and counter work, barrel looks good, and only one very small small chip on the bottom of the stock at the butt plate. Asking price is $795.00. What do you think?

Too high by $300 (assuming it is a typical TD model).

Won't be a 4 digit serial number unless it has been monkeyed with. If it truely has 4 digits then I would run! The 22 hp wasn't even invented until savage was at 6 digits in their serial numbers. So if two are ground off, not good. The only savages with 4 digits are the 303 model 1895. Savage changed the heat treating, bolt and receiver at 90,000 so I don't think that I would ant that style of receiver converted to a 22 hp. Too many possible issues I would steer clear of this one.

Boy I love the internet! Thanks guys. I'll pass it up.
Besides, I've already found something else to keep that pesky money from burning my pocket.
A friend has offered me a S&W Highway Patrol .357 at a very good price.
Again, thanks for the quick replies.
