I read sometimes about people saying that bipods will make your gun less accurate than sitting on a bench. Any thoughts ?

Only if its twisting the stock and making touch the barrel. Otherwise it will be as good as a bench with bags.

I just now watched a youtube vid of a guy doing shooting with a sps tac with bipod and then shooting from a gun rest and his accuracy was alot better without the bipod being used. He WAS using the standard stock on the 700 as well.

the bi-pod is not designed to be shot from a bench, it will bounce. If you want to shoot a bi-pod from a bench put a piece of carpet on the bench to help cushion. as to the utube video there is no way to know if the shooter knows proper technique for bi-pod shooting or anything else other than what the video shows.

As earl hinted at... a lot of it revolves around technique.

I've put enough rounds down range via bipod that I'm reasonably comfortable doing all my load testing from a bipod, whether from the ground or from a bench.

My bench-rest technique, on the other hand, is somewhat questionable. ::)

Most people that shoot better from a benchrest than from a bipod (excluding purpose-built guns with stock designed for use from bags like BR and F/Open guns) probably need to work on their bipod technique.

Bipods are used in F/TR class (223 & 308) and works well. A bench "front" rest is not allowed.

A front gunrest is used for Bench rest shooting and works best with a bench rest stock, and it's allowed in F-Open classes.

I shoot both classes, I personally feel I am a better shooter with a front rest vs a bipod. My benchrest front rest weighs 22lbs and is very stable vs a bipod.

IMO the Sinclair front bi-pod is the best for competitive shooting.
