I got the CCI #200's. And, I also got a nice pair of scope rings at walmart. The weaver quad locks are EXCELLENT rings for $10. THe design also makes them lock without using loctite. I also took pictures of the 270 pages in 2 of the loading manuals they had.

I just recently myself got into reloading, and started with my .270. I am now loading for my .223, and .243 as well. You are definately on the right track by asking these guys for help. I am still a newbie, but I will tell you how I worked up my loads. I started with nosler ballistic tips and accubonds in 130 grains with IMR 4350 powder. THe book I used listed max load as 55grains for a 130grain bt. I started at 51grains and worked up 3 rounds each at 51, 52, 53, 54, 54.5, and 55. Not worrying about zero, I shot only for group size and looking each time for pressure signs while moving up to a higher powder charge. After the testing was done, the load with 54.5 was by far the most accurate. It allowed 3 shots at .295" center to center. I have recently started working loads with RL 17, and I am very impressed with it so far. After you get your H 4350 load tweeked, you may want to pick up some RL17 to piddle with. I haven't shot the RL17 loads through a crono yet, but most people are getting between 150 and 200fps faster with it than just about any other powder in the .270 and it seems to show really good accuracy for most. Good luck and have fun with it. oh, and you have just begun to spend the $$$ ;)

..Hard to beat the old H4350...I use it for both .270 with 130gr. Nos. & .243 with 90gr Nos.. No need to try all the fancy powders when this'll drill holes..lol... ;D..

I have a .270 built in 1997(?). With H4831 & 130 Nosler Ballistics it can do no wrong.- 52 gr. in a clean shiny case with a CCI 200 primer and it's a real happy rifle. I prefer a clean shiny case so I don't get the chamber dirty....

I would caution about cleaning you're cases with steel wool, especially if it's not really fine steel wool. unless your cases get really sooty I'd just wash them in mild dish detergent, and maybe add a little bit of lemon juice or vineagar, dry thoughly, and reload them after several firings be mindful of case length. I haven't noticed wether clean cartridges are any more accurate than the dull ones but your mileage may vary.

I like the 4350 for the 270, I also use varget, they can easily be downloaded a few grains to a slower velocity also(details are in Lee's book on reloading), which is how I load them for my daughter, the 130 grain bullets are leaving the muzzle somewhere in the neighborhood of 2650-2700 fps and recoil is about like a .243 w/100 gr bullets, both my savages shoot really good groups with the same load. this reduced load kinda turns the .270 into a slightly larger dia. 257 roberts
