Hi, all . I'm new to the forum, I have a Savage 110 i think my late father got in the late 50's or early 60's. rifle is in great shape and is a tack driver. would any one have a guesse when it was built, ser# 14199. Thank you.

I have no idea about age but it is definatley an oldy. Things have changed a lot since then, for instance, the bolt head will be different as will the extractor and ejector.. If it shoots well just keep on using it. Hopefully someone can give you a date of manufacture on it.

Thank you , sounds about right, 1960. I was about 11 when my father traded the old 30/30 for her. I was amazed how well the rifle shoots, I think she is a pretty rifle , nice lines. I always wonderd why some people say a Savage is an ugly Rifle? She looks as good and the quality is there as good as any win 70 or remi I'v owned.

Many shooters get hung up on the Remmy 700 because it WAS a good rifle at one time and the military uses the 700 action. Older 700s are great rifles, the latest ones show poor workmanship, mediocre accuracy and their finish is prone to rusting very easy. I used to be a 700 man but changed my way of thinking after shooting a few "cheap" Savages.
