Would it be worth it to let SSS put a Douglas barrel on my HMR 17?

I don't think they would do the work. You would have more into the barrel than the gun is worth.

Thanks for the reply, I just thing the 17 should be more accurate and was willing to change the barrel!
Any suggestions?

I have tried several ammo's, I am lucky to hold a 1" group. I have a Marlin 17 which will hold 1/2" at 100 on a good day!

And there you have it. ;)
My Marlin shoots like that to. Savages look better IMO, but the marlin will just flat outshoot 'em in that caliber.

A gunsmith friend of mine says "On a Savage a good recrown job and bedding them for a tight stock to action fit turns them into tack drivers".

I think the Savage action is a good place to build on. The barrel has a standard size tenon, same as the Ruger rimfires so you can modify them. The action itself is a solid piece. Plenty of barrels to choose from.
No different than putting a $300 barrel on a 10/22, OK, a bit different as it will have to be custom fit.
Right now I am in the process of getting a GM fluted barrel installed. But the barrel has been worked over and is a proven shooter, so it is not a standard GM.
