Well, I mounted a Viper Pst 6-24x50, and XTR med. rings, EGW 20moa base on my 12fv .308 26" bbl 1:10 (165 smk) I could'nt get it to zero at 100 yds. The scope was bottomed out on elevation and still shooting 8.5" high. I have a set of Burris 2pc XTB bases and a EGW 0-moa base coming;any thoughts on how I lost 65+moa?

This is rather common.

The options are:

a) zero at 200 yards an old under at 100y

b) get a non-tapered base

How far do you plan to shoot that requires a tapered base? How much internal elevation does the scope have? You may not need a tapered base.

turn your base around so that you have 20 moa on the other side. should give you more elevation. instructions on the mount i got said mount either way. although zero would be better i think.

The scope has 65moa elevation;which was more than what I need to shoot up to 600yds.
I would be happy with a 200-300yds zero. The base cant be turned around pre-accutrigger flat rear- round front. I ordered a new EGW non-tapered base Monday so, it should be here tomorrow. This base will be used for another build. :(

Thanks Moe

ah so, didn't know that. yeah it would be cheaper and less ghetto rigged if you just got the new base instead of add ons. good luck.

I think I found the culprit. The front screws are too long even though they appaer to be shorter for the front. They are bottomed out on barrel thread just enough to allow the front of the base to rise. I did'nt notice this until I was about to mount a new base and saw those screws.

Good find. That seems to happen a lot. I've got a similar setup with a PST and have no issues getting a 100yrd zero.

Man, that was a big disappointment and rnds wasted; but it is a cheap fix.
