I'm looking for a new scope for my .17, keep us posted as to how that Mueller works out.

Got the bases and rings in last night. Decided to go with Weaver #16 bases and 1", medium Burris rings. Scope should be coming tomorrow and to the range on Sunday.

good luck wiht your new rifle. I have the same model, but with the wooden stock. I have a bunch of guns, and my hmr is without a doubt one of the most fun rifles I have. When you get it sighted in, its like a lazer! So much fun to hit exaclty where the crosshairs are with zero recoil. When I have new shooters with me, its my go to rifle for them to shoot.

Little slow getting around to updating but I ordered and received the scope a couple weeks ago. Got it mounted and she sure looks pretty! Took her to the mountains and only ran about 15 rounds down the pipe. Just those few trigger pulls were pretty pleasurable. Nothing formal or technical about this little outing, still need to bore sight and shoot at some paper. Anyways, the scope is a Mueller APV 4.5-14X40 with adjustable objective. Glass is nice and clear even at full magnification. Adjustments are made via finger adjustable turrets. I believe that once I get to sight her in and actually aim precisely, this rifle will be one heck of a shooter! Picture time!

Finally was able to pick up my 17 yesterday. It's a plain-Jane 93R17 FV (synthetic stock, bull barrel, accu-trigger). I can't wait to shoot her but I have to get some money for a scope bases and rings. I'm pretty sure I have everything figured out. I'm going with a Mueller APV 4.5-14X40 scope, Weaver #16 bases and Burris 1" "high" scope rings. I found an equation on another message board and with this combination, I should have about .120" between the scope and barrel. Any suggestions? Comments?

Now for a couple pics...

+1 on the Meuller APV, you'll love it on that rimfire.

So I was able to get out and shoot this little guy with the Mueller mounted on top, and I came to a startling discovery. I think I ran out of L-R adjustment. Granted, I was able to hit the bulls-eye and a 10 shot group was able to be covered by a dime (only from 25 yards to start with). I must add though, it was decently windy that day. Being that the projectile of the .17 is so small, is it possible that it was being blown all over the place, causing me to adjust pretty far to the right (from behind the rifle)? Everything seems to line up on top perfectly and all screws are secured using blue Loc-tite. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

no way the wind was blowing your bullet so much that you ran out of adjustment. That bullet is moving so fast that a hurricane would only move it a fraction of an inch at 25yds. When you get on out to 75 and 100yds, you will notice some movement from the wind. Something else is going on. I would take the scope off, swap my front ring to the back, and back to the front, and put everything back on. See where that puts you.

Ok. It was just a thought, so I figured I'd ask. Regardless, I wanna wait until I have another day to get out and shoot and see whats going on with it. Might be a while considering my work schedule but as soon as I get the chance, I'll be sure to test it out again, switch the rings, test again and post my findings.

I have a 93R17GV (hardwood) and a 93F (22 mag), both with accutrigger.. I have another .17 HMR and I have another .22 mag as well as having owned several others over the years. These two Savages take a back seat to no others in accuracy..and some of the .22 mags I have owned are Anschutz's..

Forger, thanks for the input. Just the little bit of shooting I've done with her so far was the most fun I've had with a rifle. I've never been a real big accuracy nut as I'm more of a hunter than a shooter, therefore microscopic groups aren't all the rage for me. That being said though, it was pretty cool to be able to put together a 10-shot group like this guy here...
