Just a tip.
Had my 338-06 Stevens action, a&b barrel, sssupply fluted the barrel and cross fluted the bolt, thank you, with a durramax stock and millet steel bases and rings, shooting 3 shot clover leafs at 100 yds this summer.
Both 215 sierras and 200 grn speers with 61 grains imr 4350. Both shot the same point of impact, both had 3 shot clover leafs. I was happy as a hog in sh_t !
Shot at 200 yds last week and it was shooting high.
Lowered the scope, and my groups started to suffer.
Rechecked the bases, the rings, shot some more, but the groups still were not what they should have been.
I replaced the scope, a Burris 1 1/2 x 6 signature, which I love, with another Burris 1 1/2 x 6 I had on my slug gun.
Sighted it in at 100 yds, groups still were 3" +.
? Was not very happy, not sure of what to check next, I decided to check the front recoil lug, just to make sure, even though I told myself, I never had this be a problem before.
It was loose.
After,
My 3 shot clover leafs were back, I shot a 3 shot 1 1/2" 200 yd group, dead center of the target, cleaned the barrel, and for insurance and my piece of mind shot 2 more at 200 yds.
Both were touching. ;D
So, if your groups go to crap, don't forget about that front action screw, it might save you some lost sleep !
FYI.
Now, I hope to see a mature mule deer buck this coming October in sw Wyoming.
