whats a good powder to use in a stevens 200 .243, stock barrel 1-9.25 twist with 70 gr. sierra matchkings? i have some varget and imr 4350. I was thinking about some BLC2 or H380. gonna give the varget a try first. anyone use this bullet in a special recipe? i'm gonna use it as a dual purpose load. for paper and coyotes.

Varget is a darn decent powder for the 243 using bullets on the lower half of the weight range. I have used Varget with the 58gr V-Max in my 243AI with great success and have had good results with heavier bullets too. The thing I love about Varget is that it is very resistant to temperature differences, so your hunting loads will shoot the same in December as they did in October.

I like win 760. Never really see or hear anyone talking about it though. 25-06AI likes it too.

I did not try every powder for lighter bullets, but of the ones I tried Varget provided exceptional results

the only reason i use 4064 is because i load for 220swift, 22-250, and 243 and it works for all of them. Varget does also but it can be hard to get locally at times.

+1 for Win 760!!
I prefer ball powders to stick, any day of the year.

Remember everyone out there in TV Land, H414 IS Win760.

I use Varget or IMR 4895. The former because it works so well and temp stable Nf the later because o have so much of it for my M1.

Hi me personally as a rule of thumb, I use the powder that I can fill the case with the most powder with that weight bullet, it usually also gives the most FPS,and is easy er on the brass and barrel that's my experience any ways.

example per hogdon
cal bullet powder fps

243 100 gr 40gr h4350 2973 all have about the same cup

243 100gr 36gr h380 2770

243 100gr 33gr 4895 2818
